Kathryn Virginia Jensen

Kathryn Virginia (Simmons) Jensen died Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Rosewood Nursing Center in Galesburg, Illinois. She passed away peacefully with family at her bedside at the age of 92. She was born August 30, 1925 at Monmouth Hospital, the daughter of Guy and Mamie (Keister) Simmons of Berwick, Illinois, and Kathryn spent her childhood on Union Hill near Berwick. She graduated from Roseville High School in 1943. During World War II, she and her sisters worked at Gale Products in Galesburg, Illinois, making parts for airplanes for the war effort. On January 24, 1949, she married Raymond Jensen of Gerlaw, Illinois. They lived on a farm north of Gerlaw until 1996 when they moved to Galesburg. They raised three children, Greg, Ron, and Susan, all of whom went to Alexis schools. The family attended Gerlaw Christian Church. Kathryn became a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team as a young girl by listening to games on the radio, and was still watching Redbird games on television at Rosewood, where she lived for three years. She is survived by her children, Greg (Connie) of Galesburg, IL, Susan (Bill) Dehority of Oneida, IL, and Ron of Bethesda, MD; three grandchildren, Kelly Marie Jensen of Galesburg, IL, Allen (Mindy) Dehority of Marquette MI, and Kristin (James) Boegen of Bloomington, IL; and one great-granddaughter, Sophia Boegen. Also surviving are several nephews and nieces. Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband in 2008, on daughter, Cynthia Kaye, who was born and died in April, 1954, her parents, and her three siblings, Ila Mae Simmons of Roseville, IL, Ruth Johnson of Roseville, IL, and Don Simmons of Missoula, MT. A funeral service is planned for 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Kathryn's family will be present for visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. A memorial is being established for the Gerlaw Christian Church or the American Diabetes Association.
