Kirby J. Holmberg, age 45, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 8:05 pm at Galesburg Cottage Hospital on July 4, 2009. Kirby was born August 30, 1963 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Robert D. and Nancy E. Value Holmberg. He was raised in Monmouth and attended Monmouth schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1981. He then attended Hamilton Technical College studying Electronics in Davenport, Iowa. Kirby married Janet L. Liby at the Sugar Tree Grove Church on September 12, 1992. Kirby was a body man and was employed at various local body shops in Monmouth He specialized in painting show cars and was an avid car enthusiast. He was always known to make you laugh and enjoyed the demolition derby. Kirby was very mechanically inclined and could fix about anything. His most recent project was refurbishing and remodeling several homes locally. He took great pride in his workmanship. Surviving Kirby is his wife Janet Holmberg of Monmouth, Illinois; and his daughter Emilee A. Holmberg, and son Kyle J. Holmberg, both at home. His mother survives Nancy Holmberg of Monmouth, and four brothers and sisters, Gary Holmberg, Linda Holmberg, Karen Holmberg, and Don (Dawn) Holmberg, all of Monmouth, Illinois. A number of Nieces and Nephews survive to include Susie Holmberg of Knoxville, Illinois and his extended family in Rockford, Illinois. Kirby is preceded in death by his father and grandparents. Services:A gathering of family and friends is planned on Saturday June 11, 2009 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Cremation has been accorded. No other service is planned at present. A memorial fund is being established for either an Educational Fund for his children, or the Western Illinois Kidney Center.
