LaVal A. Richey, age 52, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at his residence. LaVal was born on May 14, 1956, in Aransas Pass, Texas, the son of John Franklin and Helen Christina Bertelsen Richey. LaVal graduated from Warren Achievement School in Monmouth. He was employed at Achievement Industries in Monmouth. LaVal enjoyed competing in the Special Olympics. He loved to swim, play his guitar and dance. LaVal was an avid Cubs fan. His heroes were John Wayne and Roy Rogers. LaVal loved looking through old school books and magazines. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, father and two uncles. Surviving are his mother Helen C. Richey of Monmouth, one sister Laura (Delbert) Simpson of Monmouth, one brother George Nicol of Texas, three aunts, Betty (Dick) Ballard of Little York, Illinois, Mary Millar of Monmouth, and Martha (Carl) Marklevitz of Door, Michigan, one uncle Don (Mary) Bertelsen of Little York, Illinois. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly and leaves hehind many friends at Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth. LaVal's family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull's Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. A lmemorial fund is being established for Warren Achievement Center or First Lutheran Church in Monmouth.
