Lawrence D. Mccoy

Lawrence D. McCoy, age 79, of Monmouth, passed away at 7:40 pm on December 22, 2011 at the Care Center of Abingdon. Lawrence was born September 22, 1932 in rural Alexis, Illinois and was the son of Lawrence Elmer and Edith Glass McCoy. He was raised in Warren County and attended Chattanooga rural school. He was married to Anna Bella Waller on December 23, 1950. Lawrence owned and operated McCoy Repair and Body Shop in Monmouth. He also worked at the Ford Dealership in Monmouth as a mechanic and cleanup. Lawrence managed thirty-five rental properties for a number of years locally and was known as a work-a-holic. He enjoyed animals and John Deere Tractors. He also enjoyed raising cattle and taking care of his cats. His favorite thing was spending time with his family and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife Anna McCoy of Monmouth, and one daughter Joyce Thompson of Galesburg, Illinois. There are two grandsons James (Carol) Davis of rural Galesburg, and Mike (Julia) Brewer of Monmouth, Illinois. Two great grandchildren survive Zachary Brewer and Faith Davis and several step grand and great grandchildren. One sister, Imogene McGinnes of Rural Trivoli, Illinois survives. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers and sisters. Services:A funeral service will be on Thursday December 29, 2011 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. His family plans to receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund is established for St.Jude's Children's Hospitals.
