Lawrence R. "Mule" Seitz, age 81, of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 2:13 pm, Friday, September 19, 2008, at University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa. Lawrence was born on August 22, 1927 in rural Gladstone, Illinois and is the son of Earl F. and Grace Bielser Seitz. He was raised in the Gladstone, Illinois area and in rural Missouri. "Mule" was a veteran serving in the Army during peace time prior to the Korean War. Lawrence married Arlene Rudy on October 4, 1951 in Gladstone, Illinois and she survives. "Mule" began farming in the area. He then became employed as a Bus Driver and Custodian at Union School for twenty years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. "Mule" was an avid "Cardinals" fan. His family and being involved in the community were his main interest. He loved the time with his grandchildren and helping on the farm. Surviving him is his Wife Arlene Seitz of Gladstone, Illinois. Four Sons Larry and Jayne Seitz of Oquawka, Illinois; William "Bill" and Jeanne Seitz of Biggsville, Illinois; Jake and Denise Seitz of Gladstone, Illinois; and Donald and Diane Seitz of Gladstone, Illinois One Daughter Jenette Stokes and Fiance' Louie Johnson of Rural Gladstone, Illinois Twenty Grandchildren and Twenty-Seven Great Grandchildren One Brother Earl Seitz and Daisy of Gladstone, Illinois ; Three Sisters Florence Mae and Richard "Tex" Stewart of Gladstone, Illinois; Shirley Link of Oquawka, Illinois; and Margie and Mike Curry of Nashville, Illinois Numerous Nieces and Nephews also are surviving. He is preceded in his death by his Parents, Two Brothers, One Sister, and his Grandson Christopher Mooney. Services:A funeral service will be at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, on Wednesday September 24, 2008 at 10:00 am. Cremation will be accorded. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening and Wednesday until the hour of service. A memorial fund is established for the Health Center in Gladstone or the Gladstone Ambulance Service.
