Leslie “Bill” Calvin Bomar, Jr., 68, of Galesburg, died at 5:24 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born June 14, 1957 in Portland, Tennessee. After graduating from high school, Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force until he was honorably discharged in 1979. Throughout his younger years, he explored various jobs and owned a number of businesses, including a restaurant, a pool hall in Portland, and a computer store in the Quad Cities. His journey eventually led him to an esteemed role as a computer data developer for the Rock Island Arsenal, where he dedicated approximately 18 years of service. Bill married Theresa Bowling on August 22, 2008 in Galesburg, they later separated but remained close friends.
He is survived by his lifetime special friend, Theresa Bomar of Keokuk, Iowa; one son, Leslie Bomar, III.; three step sons, Brian, Tanis, and Jaden; two daughters, Barbara Anne Cook; one step daughter; many grandchildren; and two beloved dogs, Don’t Blink Von Schweetz and Stormageddon. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and numerous siblings, aunts, and uncles.
Bill was known for his technical savvy and deep passion for technology. He enjoyed not only creating and developing but also indulged in hobbies that expanded his creative horizons. From jewelry making to woodworking, Bill embraced the role of a jack of all trades, constantly seeking new ways to express himself. He was an avid reader of comic books and enjoyed watching movies, some of his favorites being anything super hero related, Star Trek, or Star Wars.
Cremation will be accorded. A private memorial ceremony will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
