Loren R. 'Buck' Bailey

Loren "Buck" Bailey, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 7:50 A.M. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at his residence in Oquawka. Buck was born on August 24, 1931 to Charles and Clara (Oberly) Bailey in Gladstone, Illinois. He attended grade school in Gladstone, IL and graduated from G&O High School in 1950. Buck was inducted into the United States Army in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954. On May 29, 1954, he married Ramona Manning in Oquawka, IL. Buck worked for many years for Manning Construction Company. He then owned a trucking business. He also worked at the Iowa Ordinance Plant and the railroad in Galesburg. Lastly, Buck worked at the Ware-Co Station as a service attendant before retiring in 2000. He donated many hours making funnel cakes for the Henderson County Humane Society. He loved the outdoors and was an ambitious worker, always willing to help others any way that he could. Buck also loved hunting, gardening, and going out on the river. He loved animals, especially dogs. He was a member of the Oquawka United Methodist Church. Buck had two wishes in life...he wanted children and he wanted to go to Alaska. God provided him and Ramona with a son Ty, which he dearly loved. When the opportunity arrived to travel to Alaska he was delighted. He even got to fish with the Indians. Buck is survived by his wife Ramona, son Ty and daughter-in-law Hope, two granddaughters, one grandson, and a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sister-in-law and brother-in-law. He is preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister Eleanor Menke, and three brothers; Clyde, Edward (Stub), and Raymond (Pete).
