Lula V. Bickell, age 95, of Monmouth, passed away at 9:30 a.m., February 17, 2012 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth. She was born on January 18, 1917 in Rocky Branch, Ky., and is the daughter of George and Essie Bell Phipps. Lula married Charles Bickell on June 6, 1937 in Monmouth, he preceded her in death in 1982. She worked at Western Stoneware in Monmouth for 23 years. Lula enjoyed a large garden, reading, and playing the piano and organ. She received the Distinguished Service Award from the First Church of the Nazarene for teaching Sunday School numerous years. Lula is survived by two sons; John Bickell (Ruth) of Galesburg, Ill., Tim Bickell of Wahiawa, Hi., six daughters; Joyce Hazelwood (Al) of Tyler, Tx., Juanita Hart (Wayne) of Kirkwood, Ill., Elva Cox of Galesburg, Ill., Norma Nuckles (Roger) of Monmouth, Judy Andrews (Jim) of Chaparrel, Nm., and Kathy Levine (Rick) of Monmouth. Also surviving is one brother, Jim Phipps of Austin, Tx., one sister, Audrey Anderson of Galesburg, Ill., and 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, and 2 great great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, two son-in-laws, four sisters, one brother, and one grandson Services:A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood, Ill. Her family will be present Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. to receive friends. A memorial fund has been established for the St. Jude's Children Hospital.
