Mabel F. "Flossie" Melvin, age 84, of Little York and Oquawka, IL; passed away at 12:37 am on January 2, 2016 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. Mabel was born on September 16, 1931 in Rural Ohio Grove Township of Mercer County near Sunbeam. She is the daughter of George Fred and Iva Fern Hahn Young. She was raised in the Aledo area where she attended schools and graduated from the Little York High School. She was married to Billy Gene Melvin on January 1, 1950 in Monmouth, Illinois. He preceded her on July 17, 2000. Mabel was first a courier guard and then for many years was the office Secretary for Immanuel Baptist Church in Monmouth, where she was a member and involved in various activities of the her church She also was the manager for Hayman Trucking in Little York, Illinois then also was an inspector for Eastern Iowa Ordinance Plant in Middletown, Iowa. Lastly she was co-owner with her Husband Billy of the York Cafe in Little York, Illinois. Flossie also served as Village Clerk for the town of Little York and served as secretary on the board of the Little York Cemetery for a number of years. She is survived by her son, Terry (Maria) Melvin of Key West, Florida, and three daughters, Cindy (Bob) Johnson of Galesburg, Illinois, Toni (Larry) Daugherty of Monmouth, Illinois, and Traci (Chuck) Murphy of Hutto, Texas. There are nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also surviving. Surviving are two brothers, Roy (Sheila) Pressley of Alexis, Illinois and Jack Patton of Piedmont, South Carolina and number of other relatives. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband, one sister, and five brothers. Visitation Her family plans visitation from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the service on Saturday at Turnbull Funeral Home. Funeral Service A funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Cremation will follow the funeral service. A memorial fund is being established for either the Alzheimer's Association or the Immanuel Baptist Church of Monmouth, IL.
