Madeline E. Smallwood

Madeline E. Smallwood, age 100, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2008, at the Roseville Country Manor in Roseville, Illinois. Madeline was born on July 15, 1908, in Auxvasse, Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Anna [Elgin] Estill. She was raised in Benton City, Missouri. She was a 1926 graduate of Mexico High School in Mexico, Missouri. Madeline married C. Roy Smallwood on December 24, 1926, in Audrain County, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2000. Madeline did secretarial work for Illinois Bankers Life Assurance Co. and after that was a dental assistant for Dr. Carl Johnson for a number of years. She was very active member of the First Christian Church, Monmouth. Surviving Madeline are one son Bill Smallwood (Erma Norris) of Monmouth, three grandchildren Mary Ann [David] Armstrong of Chicago; John [Terry] Smallwood,of Monmouth; and Susan [Terry] Schilson of Boone, N.C. Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren: Spencer [Melissa] Armstrong and Elissa [Gary] Johnsen, Jared Simmons, Brittany [Mohammed] Shaheen, Hilary Simmons, Jacob Simmons, Scott [Julie] Schilson, Trea [Cathy] Schilson, Timothy Schilson and Remi [Matt] Anderson. Madeline also has 10 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy and one son, James, one sister and two brothers. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Calling hours are on Friday prior to the service. No family visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for Illinois Breast Cancer Network of Strength.
