Margaret L. Jones

Margaret L. Jones, age 92 of Monmouth, passed away at 8:30 p.m., April 23, 2011 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Ill. She was born on October 21, 1918 in Plymouth, Ill. the daughter of Herman W. and Jennie Jones Thompson. She attended schools in West Central Illinois. Margaret married George WM. Jones, Sr. on December 26, 1935 in Rushville, Ill. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1982. Margaret worked at several different restaurants as a waitress including, the Corner Cafe, Maney's Cafe, and she worked at the candy counter at Woolworth's and the counter at P.N. Hirsch. She was a member of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years in Seaton, Monmouth, Kirkwood, Galesburg, and was a past Worthy Matron. Margaret is survived by two daughters; Connie Haptonstall of Monmouth, Georgia Whitehall (Charles) of lake City, Ill., one son George Jones (Joanie) of Knoxville, Ill., five grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister Freda Tranbarger-Hickerson (Mick) of Jacksonville, Ill., and one brother Jeff Thompson (Shirley) of Virginia, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, son-in-law, one sister, and five brothers. Services:A graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Monmouth Cemetery in Monmouth, Ill. Friends may call an hour prior to the service at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth where her family will be present to receive friends.
