Margaret F. Westfield, age 89, of St.Louis, MO and formerly of Monmouth, IL. passed away on Wednesday August 13, 2014 at Stonebridge Nursing Home in Maryland Heights, MO. Margaret was born May 3, 1925 on the Shunick farm in Warren County and is the daughter of Thomas H. and Sarah C. Shunick Brooks. She began school in Little York and attended rural schools. She attended Central School and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1943. After graduation she entered the civil service and began her time in the state of Georgia where she was secretary and excelled in shorthand at Robins AFB in Macon, Georgia. Margaret returned from Georgia in 1946. She married Floyd D. "Bud Westfield on August 12, 1947 in Monmouth, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 25, 1979. Margaret began work here cleaning houses and then was employed at Monmouth Pottery, at Ford Hopkins, at Hawcock's Cafe, and at Danucas's Candy Kitchen. Upon her return from Georgia she was employed at the Illinois Banker's Life Insurance Company of Monmouth. Margaret during the 1950s was employed at Admiral Corporation in Galesburg and the Galesburg Unemployment Office. In the early 1960s she worked in the Admisssions Office of Monmouth College. Margaret became administrative secretary at Monmouth Hospital in 1964 and later helped build Community Memorial Hospital in Monmouth, Illinois. Margaret assisted her husband, Bud in the operation of the store and they operated that until 1972 when it closed. While in Monmouth, Margaret was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and it's Altar and Rosary Society. She also was a member of Altrusa Club and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She moved to St. Louis in 1987 to be with her daughter, Lisa. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Lisa Westfield and friend, John Bohne of St. Louis, Missouri and nephews, John Williams in Altemonte Springs, Florida and Arthur (Bonnie ) Fullerton in Galesburg, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Mary Masterson and Lucille Williams and three brothers, John, Thomas, and William Brooks. Services:A graveside service is planned on Saturday August 30th at 1:30 pm at St.Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois celebrated by Monsignor Thomas Mack. A gathering of her family and friends will be from NOON to 1:00 pm prior to the service at Turnbulls. A memorial fund is being established for either BJC Foundation, The Brooks Westfield Fund for Thoracic Research, or Immaculate Conception Church and/or school.
