Margot Ladwig, age 96, of Monmouth IL, passed away at age 96 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth on Friday January 3, 2014 at 5:25 pm. Margot was born on September 17, 1917 in Essen, Germany and is the daughter of Robert and Bertha Ruhr Ladwig. She was raised and educated there through High School. Later she refused to join the Hitler Youth and relocated to England in 1939. She became a member of the Women's Land Army. After the war she moved to Chicago where her brother was a Lutheran minister. He too had left Germany because of his out-spoken opinions against Hitler. She held numerous jobs in Chicago. She then relocated to Monmouth in 1961, where she worked at D&U Enterprises. She later lived in various homes and worked in various businesses in Monmouth including Jacks and Pamida. Her last job was with American Greetings at Jacks and Shopko. In her 80's she retired and had been the oldest member of Monmouth First Lutheran until her death. She is survived by her sister Ursel Wade of Monmouth, IL and her son David L. (Linda) Wade of Monmouth/Mt.Sterling, IL.and Viola Burkey also of Mt.Sterling., and her caregivers. She is preceded in her death by her parents, her brother, Carl Ladwig and her sister, Annlysia Lowit. Services:Per her request, cremation rights will be accorded and burial will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery with no services currently planned. She shared her joy of life with everyone. The family is grateful to the nurses who took care of her. Contributions can be made to Western Illinois Animal Rescue who took care of her cat, "Spot" when she entered the nursing home.
