Marilyn L. Hamberg

Marilyn L. Hamberg, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 8:10 am Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Marilyn was born on December 25, 1926 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Mina (Barton) Schalf. Marilyn moved to Monmouth in 1934 as her father worked for the CBQ Railroad. She attended Monmouth High School and graduated with the class of 1944. She attended First Christian Church in Monmouth where she gave and devoted her life to Christ. On June 12, 1947, Marilyn married Raymond M. Hamberg at the First Christian Church in Monmouth and he preceded her in death on January 10, 1993. After their marriage, she became a member of the First Lutheran Church, also in Monmouth. She worked at Illinois Bankers Life, Monmouth Hospital as an aide, Rozetta Grade School as a cook in the kitchen, Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant, and lastly as a clerk/returns at Farm King in Monmouth. Marilyn loved baking, sewing, and most of all, camping. She was a member of the Elygra Safari Camping Group. She is survived by two sons, Greg (Janice) Hamberg of Little York, IL. and Carl Hamberg of Monmouth, IL., one daughter, Marcia Miller of Oquawka, IL., eight granddaughters, Melinda, Heather, Janel, Lindi, Tina, Ashley, DeAnna, and Amber, as well as several nieces and nephews. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, brothers Fred, Lyle, Warren, and Burke and sister Bev Brooks. Services:A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the service. Interment will follow in Monmouth Cemetery. Her family has established memorial funds for Hospice Compassus, Monmouth Nursing Home, or First Lutheran Church in Monmouth.
