Marilyn J. Roney, age 84, of Monmouth, Ill. passed away at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. Marilyn was born on May 31. 1925, in Monmouth, the daughter of Lee C. and Marie Bradford Thompson. Marilyn was raised and educated in rural Monmouth where she attended Ralston rural grade school and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1943. She then graduated in English from Monmouth College graduate in 1947. She married Robert D. Roney on November 8, 1947 at her parents' home in Monmouth. Marilyn was a homemaker in her own home. She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth and volunteered and was a member of Hospital Auxiliary for over 30 years. Marilyn was a member of the Crimson Clan at Monmouth College, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and is an alumni of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Marilyn loved working in the garden, and traveling. She was a great cook. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Marilyn is survived by her husband Robert Roney of Monmouth, two daughters Kathleen (Robert) Thompson of Kirkwood, Ill., and Karen Roney (Gary Craig) of Longmont, Colo.; one granddaughter Jennifer Higbee of Nashville, Tenn., one grandson Brandon Higbee of Nashville, two step grandsons, Rob (Shannon) Thompson of Parkville, Missouri and Kent (Lucy) Thompson of Monmouth. She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister Martha Kirby, and an infant brother. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth. Marilyn's family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2009. A memorial fund is being established for Faith United Presbyterian Church.
