Marion "Brownie" Brown, Jr. age 83, of Mediapolis, Iowa, passed away at 7:08 P.M. on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born on March 8, 1934 in Gulfport, Illinois, the son of Marion C. and Cora F. (Eaton) Brown. He attended school in Gladstone. On February 14, 1982, Marion married Emma Gale McDavid in Monmouth, IL, and she preceded him in death. Brownie was employed as a salesman in the medical supply business. He first worked for Security Lab in Burlington, IA for twenty-eight years. He later worked for Hawkeye Medical in Iowa City for ten years. Brownie retired in March of 1996. He very much enjoyed working with the public. Brownie served as the Mayor of Gulfport, Village Board of Oquawka, Mayor of Oquawka, and the Henderson County Board for fourteen years. While on the County Board, he served as Chairman for four years. Brownie was a member of the Faith Bible Church in Oquawka with bible study being an important part of his life. He was a Freemason. He enjoyed cutting grass, loved animals; especially dogs, and spent as much time as he could with his family. Marion is survived by two daughters; RaeAnn (Rennie) Ludens of Burlington, IA, and Debbie (Lyle) Massner of Morning Sun, IA, one son, Wally (Elaine) Brown of Milaca, MN, two step-daughters; Gwen Lox of Oquawka, IL and Gay Lynn Hastings of Galesburg, IL, one step-son, Gary Green of Oquawka, IL, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews are also surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, and two brothers. Visitation His family will be present for visitation from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service. Funeral Service A funeral service is planned for 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Following the service, as were Brownie's wishes, cremation will be accorded. A memorial fund is being established for Faith Bible Church in Oquawka.
