Marlene M. Mitchell

Marlene M. Mitchell, age 83, of Galesburg, Illinois,passed away at 5:20 PM on Wednesday,July 20,2016 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg,Illinois. She was born on April 3,1933 in Hammond,Indiana, the daughter of William Louis and Ramona Anna Guinn Scalf. Marlene was raised in Hammond,Indiana and attended school in Avon,Illinois where she attended High School. She also attended the Morse Beauty School in Galesburg,Illinois. On June 2,1951 she married Francis M. Mitchell in Avon,Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2016. Marlene was a homemaker and a mother to her family. From 1968 to 1974 the couple owned and operated The Recreation Center in Fairview,Illinois. Marlene was a very good cook and enjoyed handwork and crocheting. She loved to go fishing and enjoyed gardening and canning. Marlene is survived by her daughters, Debra (Bruce) Hahn of St. Augustine,Il.. and Ramona (Paul) Jacobson of Galesburg,Il. Her sons, Tracy Mitchell of Knoxville,Tennessee, Kevin Mitchell of Cookville, Tennessee and Marvin Mitchell of Abingdon,Illinois. There are ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. One brother is surviving, Dennis (Doreen) Scalf in Minnesota. She is preceded in death by her parents,husband, and one grandchild. A funeral service is planned for 10:30 am on Tuesday,July 26,2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth,Illinois. Her family plans a visitation from 9:30-10:30 am on Tuesday prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at the Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood,Illinois. Memorials may be left for either Handicapped Veterans of America or the Diabetes Foundation.
