Marshall K. Smith, age 92, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008, at the Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Marshall was born on May 22, 1915 the son of Wallace R. and Ethel Denisar Smith. He was reared in the Cameron area attending schools in Cameron and Galesburg. He moved to Grand Rapids, MN where he graduated from High School. Marshall served in the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII, he was a Seabee. Marshll was a bee keeper in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, for many years. He also drove a truck for the Mayflower and United moving Lines.. For a time he was a mechanic for Marathon Gas Station in Sycamore, Illinois. Marshall was a life long member of the American Legion. He enjoyed reading and working on cars. He is survived by his sister Imogene S. Swanson of Decatur, Illinois, one brother Zane Smith of Spring Valley, California, eleven nieces and nephews and twenty-five great nieces and nephews. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Quentin and two sisters Maxine Brown and Margaret Irvin. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. His family will receive friends at Turnbull's from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Interment with militray honors will be in the Silent Home Cemetery, Cameron. In lieu of flowers a memory fund is being established for either American Legion, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
