Martha Arimintia Allen, age 82, of Smithshire, Ill., passed away at 4:05 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Roseville Rehabilitation & Health Center in Roseville, Ill.. She was born on September 24, 1928 in Galesburg, Ill. to Steven C and Nora A (Bunch) Brown. She was reared and educated in the McDonough Co area graduating from Western IL University with double major in Music Education and Elementary Education, where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau, Alpha Epsilon Chapter. Martha married Herbert G Allen October 18, 1953 in Macomb, Ill., he survives. She taught both Band and Chorus at Lockport, Little York Schools and later for the Yorkwood School District. Martha actively farmed with her husband in their farming operation in the Smithshire area. Martha was a member of The Order of Eastern Star serving in Carthage, Kirkwood and Monmouth which merged into the Galesburg Chapter 235. Reaching the 50 + year membership. Martha was active in the American Cancer Society's annual fund raising and a member of the United Methodist Church in Monmouth. She played several instruments and loved to perform at community events singing folk songs with her Auto harp and electric piano, playing the piano up until the time of her death at Roseville. She is survived by her husband and children Preston (Glenda) Allen, Smithshire; Susan (John) Ketcham, Rockford; Jennifer (Clinton) Hennenfent Galesburg; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers John, Steven and Louis. Services:A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. Her family will be present one hour prior to the service at Turnbulls to receive friends. She will be greatly missed by her Family and Friends. Memorials may be left for the OSF Home Care/Hospice Galesburg.
