Martha L. Brent

Martha L. Brent, age 84, of Monmouth, Ill., passed away at 11:10 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2009, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth. Martha was born on September 23, 1924 in Bald Bluff, Illinois the daughter of Peter and Grace Thomas Mumey. She was raised in the Bald Bluff area and graduated from Little York High School in 1942. She attended Brown's Business College in Galesburg, Ill. Martha married Robert E. Brent on June 4, 1947 in Monmouth. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1990. She worked for Gambles Skogmo in the business office. Later she worked at Monmouth College in the business office. Martha was homemaker and at that time served as a bailiff at Warren County Courthouse for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and crossword puzzles. Surviving Martha is one daughter Linda Brent of Monmouth and one son Michael Brent of Smithshire; one grandson John Robert Brent of Smithshire, one brother-in-law Ralph Hasting of Oquawka, Ill., one sister-in-law Sue Mumey of Galesburg, Ill. and one cousin Jo Mumey of Columbus Junction, Ia., two cousins Dorothy Waite of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Dorothy Miller of Galesburg. Numerous nieces and nephews survive and extended family Dalinda Barry of Wellington, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers and three sisters. Services:A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Martha's family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull's on Friday from Noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Cremation will be accorded following the service. A memorial fund is being established for Monmouth Evening Lions Club Site Conservation..
