Martha L. Thurman

Martha L. Thurman, age 89 passed away at 11:30 P.M., Thursday, March 18 2010 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, Illinois. She was born August 4,1920 in Lenox Township, Warren County Illinois, the daughter of Roy C. Icenogle and Mildred Hiet. She was educated in Warren County rural schools and graduated from Monmouth High School. Martha married Charles A. Thurman in Monmouth on October 14,1951in Monmouth, Illinois. He preceded her on June 16, 1996. She first was an office worker at Western Stoneware and then for a number of years, at the city of Monmouth. She also was a cook at the Alexis High School cafeteria. Martha retired in May 1982. She was formerly a member of the First Christian Church and currently is a member of the Gerlaw Christian Church. Martha is a member of Christian Endeavor International and the Ladies Council of World Christian Endeavor. Martha was a member of the Kelly Patches & Pans chapter of the Warren County Home Extension. She was formerly active in the auxiliary of LaMoine Christian Nursing Home. Surviving are two daughters, Peggy (Daryl) Carr of Galesburg, Illinois and Loleta Berry of Galesburg, Illinois, one son Ronald A. Thurman of Alexis, Illinois, two grandchildren, Christopher Lee and Allison Lee of Galesburg, Illinois, one sister Jean ( Jack ) Jackson of Jacksonville, Illinois and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant son. Services:A funeral service will be at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday , March 23,2010 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday, March 22 at Turnbull Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. A memorial fund has been established for the Gerlaw Christian Church or the Ninos DeMexico Childrens Home.
