Martin Hackspacher, age 78, of Monmouth, Ill., passed away at 10:23 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill. Born June 7, 1931 in Soroksar, Hungary, Martin was born the son of Lorenz and Maria Schmitter Hackspacher. He was raised and educated in Hungary, returning to Germany after the war. On September 7, 1950 Martin married Margaret Stephan in Germany. In 1956, Martin came to the United States. Martin began farming with Glenn Lipp and was later employed by Ralph Wells Pet Food in Monmouth for a number of years. His career continued working as a repairman for Norris Office Equipment. Lastly Martin began his business as Martin's Lock and Bike Shop as a licensed locksmith which he operated until the present. Martin was a member of First Lutheran Church in Monmouth. He enjoyed traveling and fishing. Martin's passion was his family and grandchildren's events. Surviving Martin are his wife Margaret Hackspacher, four children, Hans "Marty" (Pat) Hackspacher, Barb (Don) Altis, Angela (Randy) Reimolds and Michael (Tracey) Hackspacher all of Monmouth. Also surviving are seven grandchildren Adam, Jamie , Casey, Tristan, Stacia, Shelby and Jeremy, nine great grandchildren Brooke, Hayleigh, Kaedin, Corvette, Braedin, Isaiah, Bryce, Breinna and Brooke. Preceding Martin in his death are his parents, one granddaughter Missy Piper, one sister and one brother. Services:A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. His family will be present to receive friends from Noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Turnbull Funeral Home, prior to the service. Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, and Alzheimer's.
