Martin R. Lovdahl, age 82, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 3:50 am on Sunday January 31st at the Monmouth Nursing Home. Martin was born on November 7, 1927 at Ormonde, Illinois and is the son of Chalmer A. and Rachel R. Monticue Lovdahl. He was raised in the rural Monmouth area and attended the rural schools, graduating from Monmouth High School. He then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. Martin married Lorraine B. Leake on February 19, 1949 in Charleston, West Virginia. Martin, with his brother Creighton, began Lovdahl Brothers Bookkeeping Service which they operated for 46 years, until his retirement in 1992. In earlier years, Martin enjoyed playing basketball, and enjoyed his backyard and visiting with the neighbors. His family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his main interest. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Lovdahl of Oquawka, Illinois. Daughter Carolyn Lovdahl of Lincoln, Illinois and Son Robert "Bob" Lovdahl of Houston, Texas. Five grandchildren survive, Nancy Pfeiffer, Martin Short, Michael Norman, Shannon and Jason Lovdahl. Also surviving is one sister Rebecca (Henry) Hartman of Nickerson, Kansas, and three brothers Creighton (Barbara) Lovdahl, Cecil (Kay) Lovdahl, and Jim (Suzanne) Lovdahl, all of Monmouth, Illinois. A number of other relatives also are surviving Martin. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Ronald , two brothers, and three sisters. Services:A graveside committal service for burial of his cremains will be at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday at 1:30 pm. Cremation has been accorded. No visitation or viewing is being planned, a memorial fund is being established by his family. Arrangements are with the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth.
