Mary J. Becker, age 96, of Little York, Illinois passed away at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois on January 14, 2014 at 1:45 p.m. She was born on March 24, 1917 in Monmouth,Illinois and is the daughter of John G. and Ida Elda Hull Goranson. She was raised in Monmouth where she attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1935. She began work at General Telephone Company in Monmouth and became a supervisor in her latter years in the company. She married Harry S. Becker on September 5, 1945 in Monmouth, Illinois after which she retired from the phone company and became stay at home Mom for her family and raising her children. She loved to read and read everything, she loved sewing and doing crochet work. She is a member of the First Christian Church where she took care of the nursery. They moved to Texas in 1957 where she was a mom and grandma. They returned to Monmouth in 1967. Surviving her are three daughters, Susan (Alan) Welty of Thomson, IL., Alice Becker of Monmouth, IL, Idalu (Ron) Turnquist of Monmouth, IL., and two sons, Mark D. (Patti) Becker of Cameron, IL., H. Kevin Becker of Kirkwood, IL. there are thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren surviving. One brother B. I. Goranson of Monmouth, IL also is surviving. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, John, one grandson, one great grandson, and one brother, John. Services:A funeral service is planned at 10:30 am Tuesday January 21, 2014 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL with burial to be in Andover Cemetery in Andover, Illinois following. Her family plans to receive friends at the funeral home for the hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am. A memorial fund is being established for the Warren County Library.
