Mary E. Braun, age 64, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 10:41 A.M. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at her home in Monmouth. She was born on January 7, 1953 in Jacksonville, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Alberta (Clark) Holmes. Mary attended various grade schools and later attended Savanna High School. On March 8, 1975 she married Daniel Braun at the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg, Illinois and he is surviving. Mary worked at Casa Sierra in Galesburg and Meling's in Monmouth. She truly loved her work and loved to serve others. She also worked as a teachers aide in the Warren School District. Mary was a Girl Scout and Brownies leader. She loved to play "Spades", poker, bingo, darts, and was a good pool player. Mary was known for her love of all people and taking in and helping anyone that needed it. Mary is survived by her husband, Daniel of Monmouth, IL, three daughters; Tina Braun Smith of Galesburg, IL, Amber (Bryson Davis) Braun of Galesburg, IL, and Lisa Mundy of Galesburg, IL, three sons; Daniel L. (Holly) Braun Jr. of Monmouth, IL, Jason (Christina) Braun of Monmouth, IL, and Kevin (Brenda) Mundy of Erin, TN, one sister, Millie (Jim) Kirkpatrick of Winchester, IL, her grandchildren; Jacob Mundy, Nathan Adcock, Elizabeth Smith, Nicholas Smith, Brandon Smith, Kaitlinn Smith, Natasha Smith, Krishonna Smith, Nicholas M. Smith, Carly Smith, Rebecca Braun, Vanessa Braun, Tyler Braun, Bryleigh Davis, and 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews Michelle (Jamie) Hughes, Benjamin (Lisa) Hughes, Steve (Amy) Hughes, and her special friend, George Fogelsong. She is preceded in death by her parents and twin sons; Jeremy and Jeffrey. Visitation Her family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorial Service As were Mary's wishes, cremation is being accorded. A memorial service is planned for 1:00 P.M. on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. A memorial is being established for American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society. A special thank you to OSF Hospice for their care that was given to Mary.
