Mary Rose Bushong

Mary Rose Bushong, age 76, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 10:10 am on Thursday January 22, 2009 at OSF St.Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. Mary Rose was born on February 27, 1932 in Prairie City, Illinois and was the daughter of Loren L. and Mona Bell McMahill Smith. She was raised in Prairie City and attended schools in Prairie City and Biggsville, Illinois. Mary Rose was married to Paul J. Bushong on April 9, 1950 in Gladstone, Illinois. He preceded her on February 3, 2006. Mary was first employed as a seamstress at Formit in Monmouth, Illinois. She later worked at Sylvania in Burlington, Iowa for a time. She was a devoted homemaker and mother to her family and enjoyed traveling. Paul and Mary lived in Japan for three years and also visited the Holy Lands twice. She was a member of the Oquawka United Methodist Church and the Quad City Walk to Emmaus. She also is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Oquawka, Illinois. Mary Rose loved flowers and especially Orchids, shopping, and her family. She is survived by two daughters Pamela Bushong of Galesburg, Illinois and Lori Freed (David) of Osceola, Iowa. One son Tony Bushong (Vicky) of East Moline, Illinois also survives. There are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Five step grandchildren also are surviving. Three sisters survive Catherine Adair of Little York, Illinois; Laura Marie Renwick (Homer) of Albia, Iowa; and Margaret Patlan of Biggsville, Illinois. Two brothers suvive Jim Smith (Vallie) of Biggsville, Illinois and Bob Smith (Betty) of Stronghurst, Illinois. A number of Nieces and Nephews and other relatives are also surviving. She is preceded in her death by her parents, her husband, and two nephews. Services:A memorial service is planned at 11:00 a.m. Monday January 26, 2009 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Cremation has been accorded. Her family plans to be at Turnbull Funeral Home on Monday for the hour prior to the service 10:00 to 11:00 am. A private burial of her ashes is planned at a later date. A memorial fund is being established for St.Judes Hospitals in her memory.
