Mary Gladys Caldwell

Mary Gladys Caldwell, age 89, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 11:20 P.M. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Mary Gladys, known as "Gladys", was born in Alexis, Illinois, the daughter of Frank E. and Daisy May (Olin) Caldwell. Gladys was reared and educated in and around Alexis, Illinois, graduated from Alexis High School in 1946. Gladys worked at the Bank of Alexis for many years. She moved to Kansas and was employed at the State Bank of Leonardville. The final years of her banking career were at the Midwest Bank of Western Illinois in Monmouth, Illinois. When not working, Gladys enjoyed "remodeling" projects including additions to her home in Alexis. These carpentry skills were learned from her father. She also enjoyed art projects including painting and ceramics. Gladys worked with preschoolers for many years at the Methodist Church in Alexis. Later she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth. Gladys is survived by her nephews; Frank L. (Virginia) Ryner of Rock Island, IL, Richard E. (Glenda) Ryner of Monmouth, IL, Lawrence W. (Joan) Ryner of Rogers, AR, David J. (Suzanne) Ryner of Monmouth, IL, and Donald P. (Mindy) Ryner of Rowlett, TX. She is also survived by many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty May Ryner, niece Janet K. Ryner, and nephew Robert J. Ryner. A funeral service is planned for 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans visitation from 12:00-1:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park. A memorial is being established for the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth.
