Mary Lou Hawk

Mary Lou Hawk, age 84, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away on September 30th at her residence in Monmouth, at 10:10 pm. She was born on January 27, 1934 in Monmouth, IL. and is the daughter of William Chapman and Mary Louise Timmons Hanley. Mary Lou was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth High School. She later received her General Education Degree in 1983. She married Charles E. "Chuck" Hawk on March 24, 1951 in Monmouth, Illinois and he preceded her in his death on May 18, 2003. Mary was known for her babysitting for her family and friends, and doing laundry for a number of Monmouth College Students. She later was employed first at Formfit and later at Smolers Garment manufacturing here in Monmouth. Mary Lou also did house keeping for the Warren County Housing Authority for a number of years. She loved her grandchildren and her family and loved to crocheting and make crafts and go to bingo. She was on Face Book and loved baking and making homemade candy. Mary Lou is survived by four daughters, Debbie Elliott and Clifford of Monmouth, Illinois, Peggy M. Sheese and Rick of Mason City, Iowa, Patty Tatman and Kenny of Monmouth, Illinois, and Cherrie L. Weldon and Willie of Monmouth, Illinois. There is one son surviving, Terry L. Hawk and Penny of Alamogardo, New Mexico, thirteen grandchildren, numerous great and great great grandchildren all survive. There are two sisters, Bobbie Jenvey and Clark of Atlanta, Georgia and Rose Algood of Clarksville, Tennessee, and two brothers, John Hanley of Elmont, New York and Larry Hanley and Arla of Dillwyn, Virginia. A number of other relatives are also surviving. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband Chuck, an infant son, a granddaughter, two brothers, one sister, and step son Lon. A funeral service is planned for Friday October 5, 2018 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois at 11:00 am. Her family plans visitation and will receive their friends at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00am prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery.
