Mary  A Hays Profile Photo

Mary Anna Hays, age 74, of Monmouth, passed away at 2:55 a.m., Friday, September 9, 2011 at her residence. She was born on October 21, 1936 in Poughkeepsie, New York, the daughter of Willard and Anna Mary Drzcwiezski Thomas. She was raised and attended school in West Wyoming, Pa., and graduated from McMoorland High School class of 1956. Mary Anna also served for a time in the United States Army attaining the rank of E-4 from 1956 to 1959. She married Leslie LeRoy Hays on May 9, 1959 in Glen Burnie, Mo, he survives. While in high school, Mary Anna worked as a bookkeeper for a large local dress factory. While she was in the Army, she wired some of the first computer control panels and finished her tour of duty as a bookkeeper. Mary Anna retired from Intercontinental Manufacturing in Garland, Tx., where she handled multi million dollar accounting before computers. She practiced the Catholic faith all of her life and was most recently a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Galesburg, Ill. She was an avid gardener and seamstress. She loved to learn. Most of all, Mary Anna loved to spend time with her family. Mary Anna is survived by her husband Leslie LeRoy Hays of Monmouth, her children; Steven L. Hays (Melissa) of Macomb, Ill., Robert D. Hays (Kathy) of Jacksonville, Nc., Ann M Lauber (Jerry) of Winfield, Ia., Brian L. Hays (Amy) of Kirkwood, Ill., Curtis L. Hays (Sherri) of Macomb, Ill., Lisa M. Miraglia (Tony) of Peoria, Ill., Cathy Roberts (Tim) of Colchester, Ill., Michael D. Hays (Lisa) of Oquawka, Ill., and Mark D. Hays (Becky) of New London, Ia. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren. One brother Steve Thomas (Sue) of West Wyoming, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Leslie L. Hays, Jr., brother Jack Thomas, and her sister Teresa Thomas. Services:A Mass of Christian Burial and military honors will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg, Ill. Cremation will be accorded following the Mass. Mary's family plans to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday evening. A memorial fund has been established for playground equipment or Hospice Compassus.
