Mary Alice Otten

Mary Alice Otten, age 85, of Cameron, Ill., passed away at 10:50 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Ill. She was born on July 3, 1925 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, the daughter of Orum and Gracie Meador Norton. Mary Alice was reared and educated in Breckinridge County and attended local schools. She married Elmo Lawrence Otten on September 22, 1951 in Rio, Ill., he preceded her in death on December 14, 1979. Mary Alice was a homemaker. She helped on the farm and raised her children and grandchildren. Mary Alice enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, she loved photos, and was an avid genealogist. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving Mary Alice are her children; Marilyn Roe of Monmouth, Ill., Carolyn Miles of Henderson, Nv., Leon Otten of Irvington, Ky., Beverly Taylor (Clifford) of Galesburg, Ill., Terry Otten (Diane) of Galesburg, Ill., and Alan Otten (Rosa) of Cameron, Ill. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, one brother Edward Norton of Breckinridge County, Ky., sisters; Helen Hobbs, and Dorothy Hobbs both of Breckinridge County, Ky., Norma lee Kennison of Meade County, Ky., Edna Brown of Breckinridge County, Ky. and Henrietta Miller of Idaho Falls, Id. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Dolores West, brothers; Duane Norton and James Norton, one grandson Daniel Otten and one sister Ruth Cannon. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 1, 2010, at the Colonial Baptist Church in Galesburg, Ill. Interment will be in Silent Home Cemetery in Cameron, Ill. Friends may call on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, where her family will be present to receive friends. A memorial fund is being established.
