Mary E. Peterson

Mary E. Peterson, age 91, of Monmouth, passed away at 4:54 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth. Mary was born on February 6, 1920 in Monmouth; she is the daughter of Verner and Ida Olson Peterson. She was reared and educated in Warren County and graduated from Kirkwood High School. Mary worked all her professional career for the Chicago Title Company in Galesburg and Monmouth as a personal assistant. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, where she was active in the Sarah Circle, Martha Alter Guild, and was an avid quilter. Mary was also a member of the Star 55, Order of the Eastern Star, and she volunteered for many years with the OSF Auxiliary. She was always devoted to her family and friends. Mary is survived by her niece, Dr. Nancy Houtchens of Kenosha, Wi., one nephew, Karl Houtchens of Las Vegas, Nv., and three special friends; Marlene Brown of Kenosha, Wi., Rose Youngquist of Monmouth, and Marjorie Swanson of Monmouth. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Frances Houtchens. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Her family will be present at the church an hour prior to the service to receive friends. A memorial fund has been established for the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth.
