Mary M. Pierce

Mary M. Pierce, age 79, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 2:50 A.M. on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Monmouth Nursing Home with her grandson Jake, friend Erin Matern, and the caring staff of the nursing home at her side. She was born on August 24, 1938 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Samuel D. and Helen Marie (Kirby) Settles. Mary was reared and educated in the LaHarpe, IL area and attended school there. On July 4, 1964, she married Lawrence A. "Larry" Pierce in Monmouth, IL and he preceded her in death on September 24, 2012. Mary worked at the I.A.A.P. in Middletown, IA, Western Stoneware in Monmouth, IL, and lastly, as a cook at the Stronghurst Nursing Home. She also tended bar at many establishments in the area. Mary loved fishing, camping, her friends and her family. Mary is survived by two daughters; Sandra Howell of Monmouth, IL and Debbie West of Corpus Christi, TX, two sons; Randy (Margaret) West of Moline, IL and Danny West of Wyoming, two sisters; Sheila (Ken) Ostofi of Durant, IA and Glenna Settles of Moline, IL, three brothers; Sonny (Debbie) Settles of Quincy, IL, Jim (Phyllis) Settles of Fort Madison, IA, and Rick Goings of Rock Island, IL. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Dianna, son Jerry, and sister Colleen. As were Mary's wishes, cremation is being accorded. No services are currently planned.
