Mary Evelyn Steele

Mary E. Steele, age 82, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois on Tuesday October 22, 2013 at 3:30 pm. Mary was born on February 9, 1931 in Keithsburg,IL. and is the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth G. Haney Olson . Mary was raised in Keithsburg where she attended school and graduated from Keithsburg High School She was married to Robert G. Steele on March 11, 1950 at St.John's Church in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2000. She was employed as cashier at the Monmouth Super America Convenience Store for over thirty years. She enjoyed gambling, going to the boat, playing cards and bus tours to Tunica, Mississippi. Mary also enjoyed the drink, martini's, golfing at Gibson Woods and traveling to Florida in the winter. She was a member of CMH and OSF Hospital Auxillaries. Surviving are three daughters, Vicki Jo (Paul) Johnson, Debra Kay Steele both of Galesburg, Robin Renee (Donald ) Lybarger and one son Jeffrey L "Steelie" (Dawn) Steele, both of Monmnouth. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Services:Mass of the Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 26,2013 at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. A Rosary service will be recited by her family at 5:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Friday evening. Her family will receive friends for visitation following the Rosary service at the funeral home..until seven or after. Interment will be in St.Mary's Catholic Cemetery next to her husband. A memorial fund is being established for Immaculate Conception School of Monmouth.
