Matthew D. " Matt " Sibley

Matthew D. " Matt " Sibley, age 40, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 2:20 pm on Wednesday November 24th, at the Great River Medical Center Hospice House in Burlington, Iowa. Matthew was born on July 31, 1970 in Toledo, Ohio and is the son of Charles W. and Cheryl L. Seymour Sibley. He was raised in Luna Pier, Michigan and attended Erie Mason High School and graduated in 1988. He later attended classes at Southeastern Community College. Matt married Jamie Marie Brown on April 6, 2002 in Biggsville, Illinois. Matt has been employed by Federal Mogul of Burlington, Iowa as a machine operator for the past 15 years and was currently an operations supervisor. He was an avid duck hunter and loved fishing, camping, and working on the house and in the garden. Matt loved to cook and grill out spending time with his family and friends. He also was an assistant coach on his son's T-ball team. Matt also enjoyed golf at Flint Hills golf course and also at the Hendco Hills course. For a number of years Matt also was lead singer for the rock band I-75 in and around Burlington, Iowa. Surviving Matt is his wife Jamie of Oquawka, Illinois and two sons, Grant Matthew and Drew James Sibley, both at home. His father Charles W. "Chuck" Sibley survives in Fairfield, Iowa and his Paternal Grandparents Bruce E. and Peg Sibley in Michigan. His maternal grandmother Leilia Mlynarek in Ohio. He has two sisters Risa Steigerwald (Travis) of Dodds, Iowa and Maggie Carlton (Scott) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a brother David Sibley (Joelene) of Peoria, Illinois. There are numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Also surviving is "Fat Boy" his favorite black lab. He is preceded in death by his mother. Services:A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Monday November 29th at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, IL. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday after 10:00 am and until the hour of service. No family visitation hours are planned. Cremation is to be accorded following the funeral service. A memorial fund is being established as an education fund for his two sons, Grant and Drew.
