Maxine R. Martin, age 92, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 11:33 pm on January 15, 2014 at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, Illinois. Maxine was born on December 22, 1921 in Warren County, Illinois and is the daughter of Emmett R. and Ruth Crandall Peterson. She was raised and educated in Monmouth, where she attended public schools and graduated from Monmouth High School. Maxine married C.W. "Bill" Martin, Jr. on June 28, 1947 in Monmouth, Illinois and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1964. Maxine was employed by General Telephone Company in Monmouth, Illinois where she started as an operator. She worked at General Telephone for over 25 years, advancing through the ranks to the position of Supervisor where she was responsible for training new employees. Maxine was a member of Heritage United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth and served as a Deacon. She loved to play golf, bridge, and enjoyed all sports. Maxine enjoyed the company of her family and friends the most. She is survived by her daughter; JoEllyn "Jody" Martin of Indianapolis, Indiana and one son; C.W. Martin III "Billy" (Allison) of St. Louis, Missouri. There are three grandsons, Jackson Martin, Rawly Lantz, and Shannon (Lantz) Kekhaev. There are four great grandchildren. Two sisters survive; Lois Appleby (Edward) of Galesburg, IL and Greta Ryner of Monmouth, Illinois. One brother survives, Lee Peterson (Helen) of Winston Salem, N.C. She is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters; Leona Sprout, Helen Bruyn, Katherine Edwards, and Faye Daily, and two brothers; her twin brother Max Peterson and brother Ray Peterson. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 am prior to the service at Turnbull's. Interment will follow at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth, IL. A memorial fund is being established for Heritage United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Illinois.
