Mercedes "Sally" Cabrera

Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mercedes “Sally” Cabrera, 96, of Lincolnshire, Illinois, (formerly of Galesburg) died August 10, 2025.

Sally was born September 24, 1928, in Silvis, Illinois, the daughter of John and Felicitas Martel. She married John R. Cabrera on February 2, 1957. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2012.

Sally’s greatest joy was her family. She was a constant source of support and encouragement. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, John (Rebecca) Cabrera of Galesburg, Alicia (Jack) Carter of St. Louis, Missouri, Christine Cabrera of Lincolnshire, Michael (Karen) Cabrera of Aurora, and Julie (Don Meyer) Cabrera of Lincolnshire. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Rachel Cabrera, Paul Cabrera, Katy (Ryan) Paule, Nick Carter, Kevin Cabrera, Jacob Cabrera, Olivia (Sam Briley) Meyer, and Matthew Meyer; three great-grandchildren: Willa, Greta, and Dean Paule; and two sisters, Sara Ramos of East Moline, Illinois, and Rosemary Ordaz of Oak Forest, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2025, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg. Funeral mass will be at 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2025, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
