Michael L. Nelson

Michael Lane Nelson, age 54, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015. He was born on March 15, 1961 in Monmouth, IL the son of Darrell R. Nelson and Darlene G. (Sage) Moffet. Michael was reared and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School with the class of 1980. He worked at Warren Achievement Industry in the pallet department. Michael loved the Special Olympics and participated in the state bowling tournament. He served on the Relay for Life committee locally and was active within the group. Michael was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He also loved following the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved to collect Coka-Cola and NASCAR memorabilia. Michael was a huge fan of Johnny Cash. He is survived by his mother; Darlene Moffet of Monmouth, IL, one sister; Karen Beth (Robert) Erickson of Burlington, IA., and two brothers; Richard (Lori) Nelson of Monmouth, IL and Brian (Tammy) Nelson of Aledo, IL, three step-brothers; John Moffet of Edgartown, MA., Stephen (Susan) Moffet of Wheaton, IL., and Howard (Betty) Moffet of Oakland, CA. Michael is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his father Darrell Nelson, and his step-father David Moffet. Services:A graveside service is planned at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Monmouth Cemetery in Monmouth, IL. A visitation is planned from 5:30-7:30 on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. A memorial fund is being established for the Warren County Special Olympics.
