Miles E Smith

Miles E. Smith, age 89, of Oquawka, passed away at 8:43 p.m., Thursday, September 16, 2011 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth. He was born on February 26, 1922 in Galesburg, Ill., the son of Ernest W. and Anna G. West Smith. He was reared and educated in Dahinda, Ill. Miles served in the United States Navy for a time. He farmed all of his life and for a time he worked at Cannon Bronze Factory in Keithsburg, and Big River State Park. Miles was an avid wood worker and loved to spend time with his family and friends. Surviving Miles is his niece Ethel Koch and family of Muscatine, Ia., his sister Marsha Gaskill of Monmouth, niece Kim Spence of Monmouth, cousins Phyllis Ross and family of Oquawka, Ill., Benny Sells and family of Oquawka, Peggy Perry and family of Roseville, Ill., and sister Tooty Gant of Kearney, Ne. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday September 20, 2011 at the Keithsburg Christian Church in Keithsburg, Ill. Interment will be in Keithsburg Cemetery. Friends may call an hour prior to the service at the Church where his family will be present to receive friends. A memorial fund has been established by his family and will be designated at a later date.
