Miriam Olson Skaggs, age 77, of Nevada City, California; passed away on April 15, 2023 . She cherished her family and friends, and lived her life with faith, courage, determination, and a sense of humor. Miriam Anne Olson was born on March 22, 1946, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was raised with two younger brothers, on a farm nearby. The family moved to Monmouth, Illinois, a small college town in 1959. Miriam was a graduate of Monmouth High School, and graduated with honors from the University of Denver, with degrees in speech, pathology, and psychology. She later became a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines and whereby met her future husband, Carson Skaggs. They were married on December 28, 1970, and had three children, Jason, Ryen, and Zachary. They moved to Nevada County in 1975, and Dr. Skaggs established his medical practice there. Mrs. Skaggs was involved in many activities and projects. She worked to establish and maintain a supported living situation for her youngest son, Zachary in Santa Barbara, California. Miriam was also instrumental in the creation and success of the "Field of Dreams" in Monmouth. Comprised of two baseball fields, James Field and Craig Field, they were dedicated in memory of her two younger brothers.
Miriam Olson Skaggs is survived by her husband, Carson of Nevada City, California, her children, Jason Skaggs and Lisa, daughter, Ryen Skaggs, and son,Zachary Skaggs. There are three grandchildren, Jacob, Kaitlyn, and Sarah. Miriam is preceded in her death by her parents, Guy and Ruth Olson, and her two younger brothers, James and Craig Olson.
A graveside service for the interment of her ashes is planned on August 9, 2024 at 11:00 am in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery of Monmouth, Illinois. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to "The Field of Dreams" in care of Dan Burgland, 329 North C Street in Monmouth, Illinois 61462.
