Nannette A Nelson Hakes Profile Photo

Nanette A. Nelson Hakes, born March 29, 1948, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Virginia. She was born in Peoria, Illinois and raised in Chillicothe, Illinois and was a daughter of Juanita Ransdell Stone and the late William Nelson. Nanette resided for the past 28 years of her life in Bristol, Virginia. During that time, she worked with a variety of community organizations including Handicapped Services, The Paramount Theater, Bristol City Hall, and Wellmont Hospital. She studied accounting at Virginia Highlands Community College where she maintained a 4.0 GPA. A charter member of the Appalachian British Car Society of Kingsport, Tennessee, Nanette gained wide regard as the author of the club's humerous monthly newsletter. Nanette is survived by her loving husband, Gary Hakes of Bristol, Virginia; one daughter, Andre' A. Hakes and grandson Mason Gillespie Hakes of Charlottesville, Virginia; her mother, Juanita Stone; and two brothers, Pat and Robbie Semtner; two sisters, Patrice Semtner and Lise Rogers; and a plethora of sufficiently spoiled nieces and nephews. Services:Nanette will return to Illinois to be buried next to her grandparents, Bessie Mae and Omer Ransdell, in Oquauka. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2011, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm in Oquawka Cemetery.
