Ora C. Myers, age 80, of Little York, Ill., passed away on Friday afternoon, September 11, 2009, at his rural residence as the result of an accident while mowing. Ora was born on November 25, 1928, in Blandinsville, Ill., the son of James A. and Ruby A. Combities Myers. Ora was raised in Blandinsville, IL where he attended school. At the age of twelve, he then moved to the Biggsville area where he attended rural schools and graduated from Kirkwood High School. Ora then was drafted and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Ora first married Irene N. Bellinger, and they were later divorced. He married Dana Gibb Johnson, September 5, 1997, in Galesburg, Ill. and she is surviving. After Ora returned from the service, he began farming in the Kirkwood area for Robert Francis and also for Carl Thompson. Ora then worked as a mechanic for the John Deere dealership in Bement, Illinois. In 1957 he began work for Thede Company John Deere dealership in Aledo, Illinois for nineteen years. In 1975 Ora started as a mechanic for the dealership in Muscatine, Iowa. His last employment was as a mechanic for Monmouth Implement, John Deere dealership for a number of years. Since that time Ora has been an independent mechanic of John Deere Equipment and also worked for Munson Transportation in Monmouth. He was a life member and past post commander of Post 1571 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Aledo, Ill., and a member of the Midwest Old Threshers Association. His hobby was restoring and repairing tractors. Ora is survived by his wife Dana L. Myers of Little York, Ill., one daughter, JoVaughn (Dale) Kelly of Macon, Missouri, three sons, Ronald Myers, John Myers, and Eric Myers all of Little York, Illinois. There are two grandchildren, Johnna and Justin Kelly. Three sisters survive Evelyn (Jon) Dawdy of Oquawka, Ill., Mary Lou (Delbert) Dillon of Jacksonville, Ark., Emily Jean (Bill) Leonard of Biggsville, Ill. There are three brothers Roy L. (Marcelene) Myers, of Brashear, Missouri, Jim D. (Gladys) Myers of Banger, California and Donald D. (Barbara) Myers of Aledo, Ill. Numerous of nieces and nephews also survive. Ora is preceded in death his parents, one brother Allen Lee Myers. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Ill. Interment will be on the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill. Ora's family will receive friends at Turnbull's in Monmouth on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for his sons education.
