Patricia A. Comer, age 74, of Monmouth, IL. passed away at 10:30 pm on September 30, 2012 at OSF St.Mary's Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Pat was born March 21, 1938 in Monmouth and is the daughter of Vernon L. "Bus" and Louise Mae Sage Mettler. She was raised in Monmouth where she attended Monmouth schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1956. She was first married to Lewis D. Heatherly and later married Jacob J. Comer on October 7, 1982 in Oquawka, Illinois and he preceded her in death on February 24, 1994. Pat first was employed as secretary at Harding school for a time, and then assisted her husband in operating the Maple City Cab Company for a number of years. She then was a teacher's assistant at Warren Achievement School in Monmouth for a time, and then was a waitress in Henderson County for many years mainly at the Oquawka Diner. Her last employment was at County Market in Monmouth where she served as a clerk. She enjoyed Baking, crosswords, and traveling. Most all she enjoyed her grandchildren and family. Surviving her are her daughters Kathy L (Phillip) Smith and Kay Kitch, both of Monmouth, Illinois and son Kim (Galen) Heatherly of Rock Hill, S.C. Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren are surviving. Also surviving are her sister Dixie (Robert) Wells and brother Vernon L. (Norma) Mettler, both of Monmouth, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two granddaughters Services:A graveside funeral service will be at the Oquawka Cemetery on Thursday October 4th at 11:00 am. Her family plans visitation at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A memorial fund is being established for Juvenile Diabetes.
