Patricia "Pat" A. Martin, age 84, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, at OSF St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois, surrounded by her family. Born on October 6, 1941, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of the late William and Ann (Fitzpatrick) Martin.
She received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Mary's College, South Bend, Indiana and a Master of Arts from Northern Illinois University. She taught Art at Riverside Brookfield High School and later taught Interior Design at the University of Northern Iowa. She also taught Interior Design and Store Planning at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, where she also established their design internship program. She was certified by the American Society of Interior Designers.
Pat spent the majority of her life in Western Springs, Illinois, before recently relocating to Galesburg. She worked as a design consultant in the Chicago area for many years, forging close relationships with her clients because of her ability to reflect ther their lives and values in their living or working spaces. She was a gifted interior designer and talented artist, known for her creative vision and her exceptionally generous soul.
Pat dedicated much of her life to service. She was a lector and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at St. John of the Cross Parish, Western Springs, Illinois. She donated her time and talent to Deborah’s Place Women’s Shelter in Chicago, where she was awarded the Patty Crowley Volunteer of the Year Award.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Mary ‘Molly’ Martin (Michael, deceased) Mannino, and Molly’s children: Michael J. Mannino (Sheila Oman); Maripat Mannino Brown and her sons, Liam Nicholas and Alexander Walton Brown; and Ann Mannino (Gregg) Moschella and their daughters, Emme and Ella Lewey.
She was predeceased by her brother, William Martin (Susan), and is also remembered by his children: Catherine Martin Dobson and her children: Ethan, Reid, Alice, and Helena; Mary Therese Martin; Steven (Erica) Hagy and their children; and Amanda and David Hagy.”
Her legacy of a thankful heart, kindness, faith, and beauty will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., both at St. John of the Cross in Western Springs, Illinois. Burial will be Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Illinois. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.For those wishing to honor her memory, donations may be made to the National Lymphedema Network, the American Cancer Society, or Deborah’s Place in Chicago.
