Paul J. Bethell

Paul J. Bethell, age 89, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 7:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. He was born on January 23, 1929 in O'Fallon, Missouri, the son of Herbert and Mary (Sipes) Bethell. Paul attended schools in the Aledo, Illinois area. He proudly served his Country with the United States Army during the Korean War. On February 23, 1950, Paul married Elizabeth Lovdahl and she preceded him is death on May 22, 2008. Paul was self-employed with his father at Bethell Trucking in Monmouth for over thirty years. He also worked for Wells Pet Food and Bruce Foote Chevrolet both in Monmouth. Paul enjoyed camping, sitting in his garage, playing with his puppies, and smoking meat for family gatherings. He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Dotson of Macomb, IL, one son, Dennis (Susie) Bethell of Monmouth, IL, four grandchildren; Pete, Jeremy, Jason, and Amy, eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters; Imogene (Ralph) Fancher and Pauline Baynes. Numerous nieces and nephews are also surviving. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth, and two brothers; Charlie Bethell and Eddie Bethell. A funeral service is planned for 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be at Oaklawn Memorial Garden in Galesburg, Illinois. A memorial fund in being established for the local Relay for Life.
