R. Dean Armstrong

R. Dean Armstrong, age 83, of Rural Little York, Illinois, passed away at 8:24 A.M. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. He was born February 22, 1935 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Clifford and Opal (Robinson) Armstrong. Dean spent the first few years of his life in Monmouth before moving to the family farm, 1/2 mile south of Little York. He attended school in Little York and graduated from Little York High School with the Class of 1953. While in high school, Dean loved to participate in all sports. Dean married Dora Giddings on July 25,1954. He later married Belinda Carter at the First Christian Church in Monmouth, IL on June 20, 1998 and she is surviving Dean worked as a hired man on the Bill Smith Farm near Little York, then at Gale Products in Galesburg, IL, and finally drove a semi truck for Supersweet Feeds, Munson Transportation, and Heartland Express. all in Monmouth, IL, For most of his life, Dean worked the family farm south of Little York. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Monmouth. Dean is survived by his wife Belinda of Monmouth, IL, two children, Sandy (Tom) Galusha of Rural Monmouth and Rick Armstrong of Rural Little York, IL, There are five grandchildren, Brandon and Michael Galusha, Amy Burton, Katie Lucas, and Jennifer Armstrong. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, and one soon-to-arrive great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service for Dean Armstrong is planned for 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Little York Cemetery. A memorial is being established for the First Christian Church in Monmouth, IL or the Little York Fire Department.
