Ralph E. Carnes, age 73, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 2:35 pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Ralph was born on September 21, 1940 in Monmouth and is the son of William and Freida Value Carnes. Ralph was raised in Monmouth and attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1959. Ralph then completed the welding program at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. Ralph was first married to Linda Branningham and later was married to Barb White both of Monmouth, Illinois. Ralph did many things in his lifetime and was in construction, and was a Monmouth Police Officer. He also was the owner and operator of the Clark Gas Station here in Monmouth. Later in life he was self employed and had many responsibilities. They included owning and managing multiple apartment complexes, running an insulation business and doing handy-man services. His hobbies include his grandkids, hunting, fishing, and collecting a vast assortment of things. Surviving Ralph is one daughter, Leanne (Chad) Hinton of Monmouth, IL; two sons, Cardie Carnes of Monmouth, and Torry Carnes of Galesburg, IL. His step son is surviving, Jeff (Julie) White of Kernersville, North Carolina. His grandchildren surviving are, Chase and Claire Carnes, Courtney Abby and Tanner Hinton, all of Monmouth, IL; and Laura and Ben White of Kernersville, NC. His very special friend Barb White also is surviving. One sister Darlene (Bud) Bass of Brevard, North Carolina. Many cousins, nieces and nephews are also surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leroy, William, Harold, and Rich Carnes and a stillborn infant son. Services:A funeral service is planned by his family and will be on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery of Monmouth. His family plans visitation at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, receiving their friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday evening. A memorial fund is being established by his family.
