Ray W. Mcintire

Ray W. "Fuzz" McIntire, age 75, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 12:35 A.M. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on February 12, 1943 in rural Gladstone, Illinois, the son of William Leroy and Bessie Alleyne (Ray) McIntire. Ray was educated in Gladstone and was a member of the first graduating class of Union High School in 1961. He proudly served in the United States Navy as an electrician. On August 10, 1963, Ray married Carole Coover in Upland, California and she is surviving. Ray worked for the City of Oquawka and I.A.A.P. in Middletown, Iowa. After moving to Houston, Texas, he worked in the Naval yards where he earned his electricians card. After moving back to the area, Ray worked over thirty years at Burlington Northern Railroad from which he retired. Ray enjoyed fishing, playing volleyball, watching old western's on television, and watching his granddaughters play softball. Ray is survived by his wife Carole, two sons; Ray Jr. (Amy) McIntire of Oquawka, IL and Craig (Tammy) McIntire of Oak Grove, MO., two sisters; Bernice Miller of Oquawka, IL and Janie (Terry) Lile of Danville, IA, one brother, Jim McIntire of Shreveport, LA, grandchildren; Hannah, Megan, and Matt, and step-grandchildren Travis and Tori and two great-grandchildren Vernon and Ivan. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Joseph McIntire. A funeral service is planned 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Ray's family will be present from 9:30-11:00 for visitation prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be at Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established to help offset Ray's medical bills.
