Raymond G. Thornburg, age 91, formerly of Monmouth, passed away on August 16, 2012 at Hospice House in Spokane, Washington. Raymond was born on November 4, 1920 in Stuart, Oklahoma and is the son of Charles W. and Edith M. Fulton Thornburg. He was raised in McArthur, California where he attended schools and graduated from McArthur High School. He then attended the Fall River Joint Union in 1939. Raymond entered the Navy on January 20, 1942 and held the rank of AM1C. He served until September 25, 1945. Ray first married Barbara Morrison and she later preceded him in death. He then married Virginia Bultemeier on July 25, 1964 in Reno, Nevada. She also preceeds him in death. Raymond was a union carpenter and was a member of the United Carpenters and Jointers Union. He also was a member of the J.W. Clendenin Post 2301 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Monmouth. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and most of all his family. Surviving is one daughter, Linda (Kenny) Flaming of Spokane, Washington and her three children, Guy (Michelle) Flaming, Kandi (Ramen) Mokhtari, and Joseph Flaming, all of Washington state and grandchildren Kevin (Kathy) Flatt of Monmouth, Carrie (Larry) Sampson of Navoo, Illinois, Cathi (Roger) Watson of Cameron, Illinois, and Chrissi (Jeff) Ryner of Alexis, Illinois. Several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews also survive. He is preceded in his death by his parents, his wife, step daughter and her husband Bonnie and Bunk Flatt, three sisters, and one brother. Upon his return, a graveside service will be on Saturday August 25, 2012 at the chapel at 10:30 am at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. Encryptment will be in the mausoleum.
