Reece Turley, Jr., age 85, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at his residence in Oquawka, on Wednesday August 26, 2009. Reece was born on April 9, 1924 in Avon, Virginia and is the son of Reece and Nellie C. Boyd Turley. Reece came to Illinois as a boy with his family and was raised in the Kirkwood area where he attended Coonville rural school. He graduated from the Little York High School. Reece then served in the United States Navy during WWII. After service, Reece returned to the area and has been a grain and livestock farmer in Henderson County all his life. He also specialized in Charlois purebred cattle, and did grain hauling and trucking for area farmers for many years. Reece loved hunting for arrow heads and Indian artifacts locally. He also liked to play cards with his friends. Surviving Reece are a number of cousins to include James (Cheryl) Turley of Galesburg, Ill., Raymond (Fern) Turley of Roseville, Ill., Charles (Donna) Turley of Hamilton, Montana and Margaret ( Harold) Yeakey of Roseville. Reece is preceded in death by his parents, and twin sisters, Margaret E. and Edna M. Turley. Cremation has been accorded. Services:A grave side committal service is being planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for the Schlotzhauer Home in Oquawka. Turnbull Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.A grave side committal service with military honors is being planned for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at the Ellison Cemetery, Smithshire, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for the Schlotzhauer Home in Oquawka. Turnbull Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.
