Richard V. Decker, age 88, formerly of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 7:55 pm on March 5, 2012 in LeMars, Iowa. Richard was born June 26, 1923 in Oquawka, Illinois and is the son of George Wesley and Matilda Ann Rummonds Decker. He was raised in Oquawka and attended local schools through High School. Richard enlisted and served in the Army Air Corp and attained the rank of Sargent. He was married to Mary C. Keever on September 19, 1950 in Oquawka, Illinois. Richard worked at Gale Products for a number of years, and later operated Deckers Marina in Oquawka. He also was employed by the City of Galesburg as Chief Pump Operator at the pumping station on the Mississippi. He also drove a school bus for Unit 115 school district Henderson County. After retirement they spent most of their time in Memphis, Missouri and moved to Sioux City, Iowa two years ago. Surviving him is his wife Mary C. Decker of Merrill, Iowa, one daughter Vickie L. Speer (Mike) of Kahoka, Missouri and son Ray W. Decker (Kim) of Burlington, Iowa. There are seventeen grandchildren Angela and Jason Lybarger, Richard and Nicole Decker, Jim Brand, Jeff and Heather Brand, Caleb, Joshua, Matthew, Noah, Kyhanna Decker, Chris and Tenneille Speer, and Justin and Danelle Brunk. There are fifteen great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and five sisters. Services:A funeral service will be at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka on Saturday March 10, 2012 at 10:30 am. His family plans to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday for the hour prior to the service 9:30 am to 10:30 am Military honors will be presented and cremation will then be accorded. In lieu of flowers the family established a memorial fund for the Oquawka Ambulance service.
